Syria, Iran, and Turkey Openly Defy Obama, as Russia Regains Mideast Influence
Nothing is new here except Turkey’s possible alliance with Iran but that could be only a bargaining chip for US aid down the road. Since the cold war ended Turkey’s bargaining chip was severely devalued. Now with Russia ratcheting up its rhetoric after years of idleness Turkey feels it has a card to play in this poker game. It is doubtful Turkey will side with Iran because they still reside in Europe and they want to be looked at as Europeans even though Europe hates them. Any solid alliance with Iran puts Turkey’s Euro ideals down the toilet. It’d be a disaster for them and not very good the Rooskies either. A defensive minded Europe doesn’t help the Rooskies one bit. Some tough talk now to scare the US into concessions later. Turkey has numerous questions to answer starting with the Armenian genocide of 1915. The crisis over Cypress is another thorn in their side. Turkey’s military will not allow full Islamic political control. So forget about Obama and Biden’s ineptitude over these matters. The real power brokers will put this all right in the end.
