Actually, in California we tried Prop 187 in 1994. This proposition would’ve banned illegals from public schools, denied them non-emergency care in hospitals, and a whole lot of things I can’t remember now. Voters approved of 187, but it never came to fruition. I think it was killed in the Supreme Court. I remember the Catholic Church getting very involved in trying to stop 187, especially LA Cardinal Roger “Phony” Mahony. All those parishoners who he suspects to be illegal…hmmm, what a surprise he tried to enable them. Keep the money coming into the collection plates.

At a synagogue I went to in San Francisco, one speaker actually compared the sweeps rounding up illegals to the Nazis hunting down Jews in the countries they occupied! That is so ridiculous it does not merit any serious discussion. I met this person after that service, and for the only time in my life cussed in a house of worship.

I grew up in Southern California and am very happy to now be living in Massachusetts. We have our problems here, but we are in far better shape than California. In fact, Boston has the best public school system for a major America city. Our cost of living is pretty high, but can vary lot depending on what city of Massachusetts you live. I applaud what Oklahoma and Indiana are doing and hope that Massachusetts will eventually follow their lead.
