Actually, they don’t. Shaving will get you put in jail, where you stay until your beard has grown out to the point where the Muttawa (religious police) can grab a handful and pull on it.
Painful? After a month or two in an Islamic jail, you won’t think so. Muslims have a way of elevating what is considered painful and what is an annoyance.
