I hate to tell you, Mr. Modest, but there is nothing modest about the Democratic Congress’s recent intrusions. I suppose one could make the argument that what has occurred is only a small step from previous intrusions (Medicare, Perscription Drugs, etc.). From a certain perspective that is true.
Two issues, however. One is the straw that breaks the camel’s back. Jefferson writing in the Declaration of Independence emphasized that for a time abuses can be tolerated, but a “train” of abuses, once having passed a certain degree, become intolerable. A sober look around the countryside will suggest that the recent mandates have lead the train onto the tracks of insufferability.
The second is the sheer nastiness and fraudulancy that saturated the very process of the passing of the bill. All the obfuscations, pay-offs, and misdirections packed into this monstrosity can serve only to certify the opinion that the government, with no constitutional sanction whatsoever to meddle in medical affairs, has entered into the arena with all its penchant for handing out privileges to its favorites in tow.
Better and/or hotter heads commenting in Pajamas Media have suggested some dramatic remedies to Obama’s socialistic adventures. Frankly, I am not savvy enough to assess the value of these proposals, but I am quite certain that socialism does not accord at all with our Constitution. If the Obama Administration and the Democrat majority in Congress insist on passing laws that defy the spirit of our Constitution, a stern response becomes inevitable.
