“Participatory democracy” is the buzzword by which leftwing activists sell Hugo et al. to the public: a patina of direct, democratic (seemingly swift and just) decision-making over enhanced state powers.

I wonder whether that slogan has traction in Latin America the way it does up north?

Also, is it unreasonable to suspect that Venezuela is in the works to become a launching pad for Iranian missiles?
