Those shocked by the violence in the region often ask why peaceful protest is not the tactic used. Israel has a pretty sad record in its treatment of non-violent protesters. This is in support of its policies of ethnic cleansing and second-class citizenship in order to maintain their Jewish state, which by definition precludes it from being a democratic one.
