Wow… really… Its as if the central issue here is misrepresentation of data to support a political agenda. I’m not surprised. But I am afraid for our future.

I believe there is a finite energy supply and that our cities can only function with a cheap, portable source of energy (ie hydrocarbons). I am not stating scientific fact, but I have been working in oil and gas exploration since about 1987.

I actually wish that I agreed with the major sentiments expressed here. It would make me feel more safe to believe that we do not have a looming energy crisis for which we have no immediate practical solution. And that we are not acidifying the oceans. And that unusually high (perhaps mass?) extinctions of species are not occurring.

But I do believe all of the above. And also I believe that our political system and corporate systems will fail us because of grid lock, because it is in no politician or corporate executive to admit to any of the above, and because real (even somewhat) gradual solutions to these problems will require long lead times and sacrifice at a global scale.
