Yeah, the more I think about it, the more Mexico as the fifty first state is the way to go. The left can’t complain about neocolonialism anymore–how can you colonize yourself? Conservatives can’t complain about an inadequate labor force of disenfranchised “helots.” Beverly Hill’s liberals can keep their pristine beaches and Alaskan north slope parks while conservative business exploits Mexican oil fields. The left will have a new mission for the next one hundred years bringing real civil rights and the rule of law to Mexico–perhaps legalizing mind altering drugs to pay for it. Congressional liberals will have to tolerate fifty new catholic congressmen from the new state of Mexico not really into gay marriage. Of course, the Black Caucus in congress–where only black skin can be a member–will probably not be happy at the influx of more Mexican congressman. Hell, what do you say, Rubin, we can annex Haiti too? We could use another island in the sun, and will keep the Black Caucus happy.
