A few minor points; the Iranians as a whole did not put the mullahs in charge due to the Shah being overthrown. Many groups fought together to overthrow the Shah. It was generally perceived that after the Shah was gone there would be a democracy with power shared by fair elections.
What went wrong was after the Shah, the Islamists jumped to the head of the line and seized power. They were not then or now the majority, but as is often the case, the most violent and the most dedicated win out over the majority.
It is very sad that a great culture like the Persians would be so enslaved to such a barbaric government. They need to reject Islam totally and figure out that it was forced on them by Arabs 1200 years ago. They are still living as conquered people as long as they are Islamic. All of North Africa needs to do the same.
