Carl says:
“* “invaded Kuwait, blabbity blah blah”
* “invaded Iran, blabbity blah blah”
* “gassed the Kurds, blabbity blah blah”
* “paid moneys to suicide bombers, blabbity blah blah”
* “attempted the assasination of a US president, blabbity blah blah”
Ever heard of the Riegle Report, Carl? I think it will tell you a lot about how past, stupid American foreign policy executed under the likes of Reagan and Bush led to Saddam having possesion of the WMDs and biological weapons in question.
Should we continue to apologize for “realpolitik”?
Then there’s the part about how Reagan’s administration (and executive agencies under) ASSISTED SADDAM IN USING THE CHEMICAL WEAPONS AGAINST THE IRANIANS.
Then the part about how due to some faux pas on the part of the Bush I administration tacitly allowed for the invasion of Kuwait in the first place.
But then, that’s all moot. First they said he was an imminent threat, which it was determined he wasn’t.
Now you’ve shifted the goal posts a little and are saying he was an evil man. Well, duh! He’s an evil man that when working in concert with the policies of Reagan/Bush I we were more than happy to tolerate and aid. So you have to admit that your neocon/warmongering logic has some serious flaws. Anything else coming out of your mouth (keyboard) is simply propaganda.
Furthermore, you mental midget – you’ve completely and conveniently ignored the main proposition that Iraq was a *distraction* from the real GWOT (partly and precisely due to the “he tried to kill my dad!” rationale JUST AS YOU SAID).
The Taliban have come back en force in Afghanistan, Bin Laden et al were allowed to escape with the aid of our “allies” in Pakistan, and the Bush administration has yet to exercise any pressure on Saudi Arabia to crack down on the militant Wahhabi teachings that created the 9/11 terrorists in the first place.
In the words of John Kerry (hint: character assassinations that are sure to follow do not negate his point)”Wrong War, Wrong Time.”
And now you all want to paint it as some existential threat that must be addressed. And we’re all supposed to be convinced by your convenient retelling and manipulation of history.
Tell me this while you’re at it:
Why couldn’t Bush, Rummy, Cheney and the rest of them accomplish more during the time in which both houses of Congress were controlled by Republicans? The rarest, and most satisfactory answer I hear from the likes of the neocons is that the war was badly mismanaged and that the voices of reason (leaving aside the ones saying not to invade yet) were completely ignored out of blind ideology and ignorance.
Translation: Yeah, we F*ked up. Now keep writing us blank checks or you’re all going to get your heads cut off and your women will be wearing burkas.
Spare me, loser.
