Well Gringo, I’m a prior service Army vet, I’m a pro-life conservative gun owning Texan, and I think the Liberals (or lyberals if you prefer) are actually right on this one… and I am saying that if all the tough talking macho guys around here truly believed in the war they would have already enlisted… well unless they were, you know…dare I say it…Chickenhawks.

The max age for a non-prior service enlistment is now 42. If you were born since 1965, are in good physical condition, and don’t have prior service or a disqualifying disability; and you really think this is an all important war against EVIL then I ask “Where the heck are you?”

I’m sure some of the guys here have a good answer to that. I’m also willing to bet a lot don’t.

No Russ, I’m not saying anything against or about you and the other folks who are or have been in uniform, except perhaps that you could use some help. I’m sure you would happily go do the Birkenhead Drill if ordered to do so. I’ve served with a lot of guys just like you, and was proud to do so. That’s not the point. The point is that in Iraq (as one Marine said) we have “more barn than paint” and I’d like to see some of the tough talking bloggers that support the war from the comfort of their lazyboys get out there beside you. I’m asking if they have the courage to “go all in”. I know that you allready do.

Neither is the fact that Liberals drive SUVs the point. So they are dishonest… that doesn’t excuse being just as dishonest. Neither am I calling for the draft. (Don’t know where THAT came from…). An all volunteer Army is a great thing, I’m just wondering why more of the macho guys here, who obviously DO understand the situation much better than Kerry or Murtha or Pelosi haven’t gotten around to volunteering yet.

I’m just wondering what all the tough talking bloggers who haven’t done anything are going to say when their little girl looks up at you one day and asks “What did YOU do in the War Daddy?”

Tim, thanks for your service in Iraq. If you had read earlier posts you would see that I did do my bit. I was a staff weenie I admit, but as an alumni of Ft. Huachuca I had a useful skill or two. I got my Mob orders in 03, spent 5 months overseas in the sandbox, came home, signed up for another 12 months, and then did another 6 months, four weeks of which was spent back in the Sandbox. This does not count my reserve service back in the 80s and 90s before I went IRR. No I did not get shot at, (except maybe once, but I was asleep at the time so I don’t think that counts) and I am glad to see that the guys that shot at you did not hit you. BTW the quote is not from Einstein, it is from Lord Acton a 19th Century British politician who said “All that is necessairy for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.”

Which kind of brings me back to my point. If Acton (or Einstein if you want to follow Tim) is right, then why are all the tough talking conservatives here talking tough but DOING nothing?

Everybody is yelling about how bad it is that Democrats are advocating defeat, and I don’t disagree with that. The consequeneces of a Vietnam style defeat would be very bad. I just want to know why all the tough talking, perfectly healthy, under 42 year olds here who apparently already understand that aren’t down talking to the Army Reserve Recruter where they work to prevent that defeat and get the chance to do more than just “Blog for Victory”.
