Please let the “invisible hand” work.

Without subsidies, ethanol from corn is costlier (a less efficient use of resources) than gas.

And, if ethanol from corn did compete with gas, as others here have mentioned, you would have huge dislocations as land used for other crops would be turned to corn production.
