OK, let’s look at what Bush will likely say tonight.
Energy security – he’ll push some pablum about switchgrass (ie biograss) again but that’s just for the utopians amongst us.
He will also come out with a crash program to build more nuclear power plants, and fast. Why is that important? Because we are poised to become as dependent on hostile suppliers of fuel for our electric supply as we are already for our transport fuel.
We are moving to become dependent on LNG for our electricity. If that LNG tanker doesn’t show up every two days, the lights will go out.
That program won’t solve our energy problems but it will PREVENT us having another vulnerablity, equally critical.
In my paranoid moments, I suspect that Gore’s global warming hysteria is about blocking domestic coal to ensure that LNG dependency.
Bush may also accelerate our nuclear hydrogen programs – ’bout time!
