Uh, Jules….If Bush were actually serious about winning the war on terror instead of keeping it around as (what he thought would be) a political benefit, he would have held off on his precious tax cuts and sent in the kind of force to Iraq that it really would have taken. Bush was never serious about winning, in Iraq or anywhere. All he wanted was a political issue to take to the next election. 21,000 more troops won’t do it. 100,000 more might not do it (although there was a time, long since passed, when they probably could have). It actually worked for him for a while. But now everyone (but you apparently) knows what some of us have known all along — that this was never really about winning the war on terror; it was always about politics. So please stop insulting the American people for not being strong, serious, or resolute. They trusted this president and he abused that trust. And he’s not going to be able to get it back either, no matter what he says tonight.
