#48 RWE: As a practicing engineer I applaud your notable quotables showing the very real disconnect between the ivory tower researchers (i.e., the “true” scientists) and those of us (lowly engineers) who are merely practitioners (and sometimes considered heretics – since we don’t need to know the whole entire theoretical basis for stuff but just enough to build something useful that’s reasonably cost effective in a timely manner) who rely on knowledge of science (i.e., proven repeatable and predictable – unlike global warming / climate change) and mathematics (tools) to design and develop “things” to benefit human kind. Of course the word benefit can depend on one’s own interpretation (e.g., weapons, robots, cars, aircraft, telecommunications networks, computers, buildings, life saving medical equipment, etc.).
