Banafsheh and Ardeshir-
I, too, was not insulting to you or calling you “ignorant and doltish”…just naive. Not nearly the same thing…
I have to totally agree with what John Samford wrote, though. We (and YOU, and all of Iran) are facing a regime that will not go “quietly” because of some “election”. Banafsheh, you stated in the letter at the end:
“…even if you manage to dialogue with the ruling clergy in Iran, they will never keep their word. They are masters of deception, manipulation, rhetoric and spin. They are incapable of even honoring their own signatures, and refuse to abide by the terms and conditions of treaties that they themselves have agreed upon time and time again, as we have witnessed in their reactions to U.N. resolutions.”
If this is so, and I totally agree with you, why, of WHY, do you think the people of Iran will be able to “usher out” this regime through some sort of democratic “election” process??? When the Mullahs rig the elections, or only put up candidates that meet their approval…how can ANY reformer ever be elected? This was even seen in your last election, when “moderates” were disqualified from running!
I understand your feelings of not wanting to see bloodshed in your country, or a war that will kill thousands…but to think, when mullahs control Revolutionary Guards, thugs, and “secret police” among the populace, and that have NO HESITATION killing fellow Iranians to keep their power or ANY movement within the country from arising…then an “outside” force is the ONLY thing left that will remove them!
Ardeshir, the site you linked says the following:
“For Majid there was only one way of toppling the Islamic regime. He showed the Iranians that velvet revolution is not the path to liberation and democracy. Whether he made a mistake about that or not will remain to be seen. But one mistake he made for sure was that he thought he would get some support from the USA.”
Your “hero” was RIGHT about a successful “velvet revolution”. Unfortunately, he was also right about expecting help from the USA. And you can COMPLETELY forget ANY help ever, ever, EVER if Obama is elected…in fact, I have my doubts about the man having the ‘nads to help ANY country militarily (even Israel!) if they were attacked. He is the epitomy of Carter appeasement and misjudgement!
