“Put America’s power behind what is right — and watch the people of Iran usher out the Mullahs and democratically elect a government that truly represents the people of Iran.”

While I admire your taking Obama to task for his incredible naivity and lack of judgement…your hope for Iran is, I believe, just as naive. The above statement is your hope, desire, and ultimate belief of what you think will happen, and perhaps it IS America’s best course of action, but what you hope will happen most likely will take 40+ years before it does. The younger generation, of which demographics in Iran gives them the advantage, will have to see the older generation of mullahs and hardliners die out, and the younger generation take positions of power before any real change comes about.

You give examples of the USSR and South Africa as how this can happen, but in both cases it was exactly that…40 to 50+ years from the start of our “cold war” with the Soviets, or the start of Mandela’s and the ANC’s efforts to change apartheid, before the change actually happened.

Mandela himself spent 27 years in prison before being released, and it took the ANC, today’s ruling party in South Africa 71 years from it’s inception in 1923 before it became the ruling party in 1994.

So you see, unless there is some kind of internal uprising with a STRONG leader and massive popular support…and the mullahs are VERY aware and concious of this and nip these in the bud before ANYTHING can gain traction, it will be a long, LONG time before we see ANY kind of “internal” revolution in Iran. Hopefully, you and I will still be alive to see it, but I doubt it.

“Hope and Change”…sure sounds good on paper…but we’d STILL be hoping for Sadaam Hussein to change his ways if that’s all it ever took.
