Manda and Banafsheh are two brave, outstanding voices…in a desert of fear and and canyons of depravity.
They clearly understand the picture in Iran, however, I suspect they do not understand the chasm that separates American leftists from caring one whit about their voices.
What they cannot fathom, is that American leftists have no use for any lesson that doesn’t point a finger of blame at the United States. What would never compute with them, is that leftists are more interested in finding ways of self-loathing than they are at advancement of the interests of the US.
What would make no sense to them, is that American leftists would rather prop up radical enemies than to defeat murderous despots. It would shock them to find that the American leftists they target with their open letter would rather hunt for “root causes” for anger at the United States…all of which, each and every time…come back to some “source” of US fault and blame.
Had they known and understood the American leftist mind, they would know that the open letter is not going to bear fruit. It won’t be heard. It isn’t from the echo chamber, it cannot be found in the hymnal. It will fall on deaf ears.
American leftists have ZERO interest in being told that ANYONE is to blame…except the United States. Chavez in Venezuela? A hero. Castro? An agrarian reformer. Hamas? A lefitimate government fighting for liberation. Che Guevara? A swashbuckling hero against repression.
Ronald Reagan? A bumbling, doddering fool hellbent on war. Gerald Ford? A bumbling fool, too stupid to know the history of Eastern Europe. (although I think he did know that we have only 50 states, not 57)
You see Manda and Banafsheh wrongly believe that Americans are all pulling on the same end of the rope as we try to reel in American interests. They could not be more wrong. Leftists have not been pulling on that end of the rope for over 40 years. They have been pulling against it. And American leftists have absolutely no interest in helping the Iranian people…at all. It simply doesn’t fit their story.
