McCain is more popular than his party. To keep the Republican brand from dragging him down he needs to re-brand the party by picking a VP candidate who’s relatively unknown and has a “wow” factor- a new future face of the party that will make people who have written off the R’s give them a second look. That makes taking a chance with a Jindal or Palin or some unknown with charisma, convictions and ideas.
