Contrary to some on the right (e.g., Peter Wehner; see Commentary Contentions today, 11/18) I really like what I hear from Sarah Palin. She is a no nonsense, down to earth person. She is not going to give windmills that needs subsidies; she’ll give us oil derricks that are profitable, will sate our energy thirst and make us less dependent on those who would like to see us as part of Dar es Salaam. She is not going to bow to the Emperor of Japan and she will meet with the Dalai Lama, becuase I have not doubt, what you hear from Gov. Palin is what you get.

As for Newsweek, and the picture it ran to embarrass Gov. Palin, all I can say is, how the mighty have fallen. When I was in college in the 1960s, Newsweek advertised itself as being able to separate fact from opinion. It really was a news week(ly) the, a mighty at that. Today, it can tell the difference, and some call it, Newspeak, as in the Orwellian, new speak. I think that, though, that spell check didn’t catch the error. They spell it, Newsweek; it should really be, Newsweak.
