Over the weekend I, pretty much by accident, managed to watch a 1966 movie, Khartoum, with Charleston Heston and Sir Lawrence Olivier about British General Gordon in Egypt and the Sudan. Forty-one years ago they made a movie about fighting fanatic Muslims in the 1880′s – and 120+ years later we’re still fighting these fanatics. Only now they’ve managed to move HERE. Where are our General Gordon’s and our societal confidence? We’d better find both in short order.
