…so, anyway, I have the nicest, most secure house in the neighborhood. I also have the highest income, the best standard of living, and my kids have it made. Needless to say, my neighbors are pretty cold to me, if not downright hostile. Granted, I fully fund our neighborhood crimewatch program; and I pay for the snowplow in the winter when we get a big dump of snow. Still, I hear the talk behind my back..and it ain’t flattering. Well, I decided to change things, I pulled my kids from private school and enrolled them in the semi-decent public school nearby; I decided to scale down my job and now make only a fraction of what I made before; finally, I let my beautiful landscaping die away and be replaced by good ole’ grass and dirt. I notice my neighbors come around more – heck, they invite me to ALL the gatherings in the ‘hood! I feel like one of the boys – and its great…I worry though, since I can’t swing the crimewatch and snowplow fund like I used to; but, hey, we’re all on-the-level so I suspect it will go over OK when they get the bill….
