What If Ayers’ ‘Joke’ About Writing Dreams Is On the Press?
I remember these people from the 1960s also. Their defining characteristic was their absolute unshakable conviction of their intellectual and moral superiority to those they denigrated from LBJ and Nixon to their fellow students who did not follow their enlightened ideology. ‘The Movement’ were politicians and elitists, often from moneyed families. They envisioned the concept of a revolutionary new order in which love, brotherhood, and justice would prevail with themselves, by divine right, in control of everything.
In retrospect most of them grew up. Some went into politics, usually ‘progressive.’ Others made money, drove Volvos and took their kid to soccer. A few simply clipped coupons and remain today as they were in the 60s essentially dilettantes.
Ayers and Dohrn were something else, true monsters, who could be proud to commit murder against their fellow man whom they claimed to be trying to elevate. It says a great deal about Obama’s lack of character and morality that he would be in anyway associated with people like these. I can understand Ayers and Dohrn’s attraction to those callow students of the 60s who later grew up; but Obama?, with the perspective of time, to have so much as even talked about some book with Ayres? Whether Ayres wrote the book or not, we have a problem.
