The greatest threat is a resurgent Iran that takes advantage of the situations in SW Asia created and exacerbated up by the short-sighted ‘policies’ of the Bush administration, most notably the insurgency in Iraq and the developing situation in Lebanon, both of which could led to full blown civil wars with one side supported by Iran. Iran strives to have a Shia-dominated foothold stretching from the Gulf to the Medditerranean.

The last eight years of Bush policy has done nothing to lessen this threat. Instead, our government waited for Iran to make the first moves that would justify use of military force, the only tool of national power Republicans think they know how to use. The ineffective cycle of threaten, contain, embargo, posture, isolate accomplished absolutely nothing.

Senator Obama brings a fresh look at Iran policy. Talking to Iran will not provide it ‘legitimacy’ as Sen. McCain suggests. Talking to Iran is the first step in throwing out an extremely arrogant foreign policy that sets preconditions for solving our challeges with our potential enemies. Policies that had us sit back and rely on our status as a military and economic superpower. Policies that enabled perpetual status quo.
