It is only a “disaster” because that’s how you choose to define it. You’re playing partisan and extremely petty politics with this issue. Obama went to bat for the 2016 Games to be held in a U.S. city. It didn’t work because the IOC felt it was time to have them in South America for the first time in Olympic history. Obama’s effort was worth it, regardless of what conservative critics have to say. The fact is, every single thing this president does is attacked or ridiculed by the right-wing, whether it’s good for the country or not. If anything, the prestige of the U.S. presidency has been immeasurably enhanced by Barack Obama.
