Your first sentence captures why the fogiveness has been swift. Considering the orgasmic swooning we keep being told is the female reaction to Obama (esp. among press corps members; the “ogling” u-tube video comes to mind), is it any wonder there was an assumption this was a ‘tear of endearment from one’s beloved?” Heh.
