In my opinion, we are fighting wars today because Jimmy Carter chose not to. The “Iranian hostage crisis” was, in fact, an invasion of U.S. sovereign territory and a declaration of war. We should have sent several divisions, not one Delta Force team. When Carter chose to let the Iranians keep our citizens after one failed rescue attempt, Muslim fanatics everywhere got the message: attacking the US is a low-risk, high-reward activity.
