Mishu & Sam. A green card lottery in Bulgaria is not even a partial proof of your point. Your sample set is those who are already here. Since the Iron Curtain collapsed, we have allowed many Eastern Europeans to immigrate. It is still difficult, and much desired, for most Eastern Europeans to get here. I have many Romanian friends who would love to come here and cannot.
As to more legal immigration – yes, certainly. We have shown that our economy can absorb a higher number than the current restrictions. Were it spread among more countries, there would be less danger of non-acculturation, and whatever general anti-immigrant sentiment there is would reduce considerably.
