Under the Gadsden Flag: Conservatives Rock the Capitol
I was at the march and I can say that there were WELL OVER 1 million people in fact The Daily Mail UK newspaper (unlike our USA news papers and web sites) ran a front page article (with pics) stating 2 million people were protesting in DC. I saw the packed crowd go from the Capitol steps to the Washington Monument. One of the police said that for over 3 hours wall to wall people marched down the eight lane road without stopping. I was in a front contingency and we had to start marching an hour+ early as so many others were unable to fit in the staging area. Organizers were concerned as they didn’t have a permit for the Mall area (even they didn’t expect the phenomenal turnout) – but there was no where else for the hundreds of thousands of “excess” patriots to go.
No big surprise that the DC Capitol Cam (which would have shown the magnitude of the crowd) was mysteriously shut off on Saturday. It’s web page showed a blank screen with the statement: “This camera is currently unavailable to the public”
We came together from all over the Country – including Alaska and Hawaii – from different political parties – as one body of peaceable protest. I met no one that was discourteous or disrespectful – the crowd picked up any litter and left in a large but peaceable, well mannered way.
I was really impressed by a tiny, elderly woman with a prominent French accent – who traveled all by herself from California -she belonged to no official group or organization. Living here as a legal immigrant, she stated it took her 27 years to become a US citizen: “I left a socialized country” she said – “and I don’t want to live in one now”.
We saw Sky News & Fox News cameras. I did not see it but I heard that CSPAN had excellent coverage. Fox News coverage was OK but many were disappointed.
The NY Times chose to put a little boy with teeth cavities on the ‘above the fold – front page’ while a small story about the largest protest that DC has ever seen (dwarfing the “million man” march) was relegated to page 35 opposite a glowing article about Obama at a rally in MN. Other newspapers were similarly absent or minimal with coverage.
Blatant slanted news/propaganda that the media longer tries to hide.
