Obama won’t move to the center – his band of radical merrymen won’t let him. Even if he tries to, which I doubt he will, it would exacerbate the disaster(s) he’s already caused (unemployment 9%+, exploding deficits, massive spending) b/c as you correctly point out, he’s no Bill Clinton. He’d be neutered by Congress, and his lefty Commie friends will throw a hissy fit. It will be a battle between his giant ego & his leftist pals on one side and whether he can muster enough pragmatism to secure a second term on the other. America is more conservative than liberal, and many independent voters & some Democrats are finding out, finally, that Obama is nothing but smoke & mirrors with a hard-left agenda.
