34. Hyphenated American: “I’ve noticed that a constant theme of the left is that conservatives should give up Medicare support and Social Security payments. Well, I think it’s a grand idea, and conservatives should do it. There is one precondition though, which I am sure the liberals would agree with. If a man withdraws from SS or Medicare, the federal government must return all the money it collected from him through the Social Security and Medicare taxes – with interest. There is another fine idea – only conservatives should be allowed to withdraw from Social Security and Medicare.
Hey, liberals (you know who I am talking to) – do you agree with this?”
Your plan sucks. Why? Because most of the Medicare money that conservative southern/midwestern states get is subsidized by tax dollars paid by wealthy blue states.
That means that moderates and liberals are paying for poor conservatives’ Medicare.
That means that if the system gets dissolved, and the money goes back to the people who paid for it, it’s going to go right back to the blue states that put up the money to begin with.
Blue States like Massachusetts will be able to set up their own state health insurance subsidies, but poor states like Alabama will not, because they have no money to do so.
