I have a new question…Who, precisely, is writing all these bills?
Answer — lobbyists actually provide “suggestions” to staffers. Staffers write it. Copy/paste shuffle some text.
I’m not kidding. Insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies will do VERY well (at least in the short term) under these bills. Example: simply by making it a legal requirement to have health insurance, how many new customers will the the insurance companies sign up? A lot. And they know it. Both industries are heavily donating Donkey.”
Well, to the extent that this is true, it would be very interesting to have this information out there as well. But the problem I am pointing to is that it is impossible to construct a coherent bill this way. The cut and paste method of letting lobbyists write their own portions might work for some things, like budgets, but it can’t work if you’re trying to create a system, where all the parts need to work together. And that’s what’s happening now–very ambitious leftists are trying to create a socialist system like a Rube Goldberg device. Again, I’m not asking this question for my own edification–I am pointing to possible strategies–I think large numbers of people could be moved towards the proper contempt for these politicians through a prolonged exposure to how the sausage is getting made. People are paying attention–the conditions are right. Let’s not jst play ping pong, batting our interpretations of this or another portion of the bill back and forth–let’s see if we can dismantle the whole thing and discredit the whole process, once and for all.
