Nazish, clearly you feel put on the defensive by criticism of your religion.
Don’t you realise that Christians face constant criticism and ridicule of their religion, even in the free West? In Muslim countries, Christians are persecuted. You can’t even bring a Bible into Saudi Arabia. In Western countries, Christians, Hindus, Jews, Atheist etc can become Muslims and that’s fine. But in Muslim countries, anyone leaving Islam can be, at best ostracised, and at worst killed. And in the West, some Muslims say this is acceptable.
Until Muslims address what is wrong with their religion, instead of playing the victim card, Islam will stay stuck in the past, and, rightly, arouse the suspicion of non-Muslims.
Turning to my original argument, surely this girl could try for a job in a more conservative hairdresser, where her image would be fine. I, personally, don’t go in for a “funky” hairstyle, and would not mind who cut my hair as long as they were competent. But this particular salon sells itself on image, and needs a stylist – whatever their religion – to look the part.
Bushra Noah has no genuine grievance. She is just, at the expense of the taxpayer, playing the victim and pushing for the veil to be accepted where it doesn’t belong.
The UK is the most tolerant country in the world. But we’re getting pissed off.
