Ruff, the idea that the left cares more about the poor is ludicrous. It’s not a difference in degree of compassion, it’s a difference in our beliefs about the cause of their suffering and how best to ameliorate it.
The Modern Liberal believes that the confiscation of wealth from the successful and its redistribution to the failed is good policy. The problem is that it does nothing to actually help those who have failed not because of bad fortune (being born disabled or having lived through a tsunami). In fact, their indiscriminate policies of “helping” the failed is more than likely to INCREASE suffering by giving more power and funding to those whose behaviors bring about not only their own suffering but the suffering of others.
For example, sending massive amounts of cash to the Palestinians will do nothing to help the Palestinian people and only give more power to the terrorist leaders who impoverish the people in the first place and murder innocents in Israel.
The Republican method of increasing opportunity and targeting help to those who will actually be helped is a far superior way all around.
