Great article. I went to work for ACORN in the early 90′s — long story. I had been lucky to experience very principled, left-wing activists who had cut their teeth on European anti-fascism, so I remained pretty naive for longer than I might have.
ACORN cured that. What a bunch of narcissistic, psychopathic thugs. I have never been lied to like that, and I was struck by the absolute differences between the elderly, mostly foreign-born women I’d worked with in New York and Florida, and the American, elite, Sixties version of radicalism that spawned ACORN.
Only then did I understand some of the comments those old ladies from New York used to make — about how the New Left had ruined everything and were ungrateful children who refuse to grow up.
