Increase Mather at 33,

If the Democrats were to actually attempt to suspend the 1st Amendment of the United States Constitution I believe they would create a political conflagration from which political survival could not be expected.

The 1st Amendment is THE core principal of our governmental contract. They might be able to put in a fairness doctrine at considerable political cost. Suspension of our 1st Amendment rights to freely speak and assemble would lead to a protest the porportions of which would never before have been seen in this nation. Even the MSM, whose wits have been dulled by their tired, vapid, socialist thinking would realize the threat to their livelihoods such a decree would portend. There would be pandemonium initially. Then there would be electoral backlash. Survival could not be expected.

The Democrats may be misguided about many things, but there are many who would not join in such legislation and would actively oppose it. Those who supported such legislation would be subject to impeachment under Article 1, Section 2 of the Constitution.
