The real irony of Soviet history is that the USSR fell for precisely the reason stated by Marx. The Bolsheviks weren’t true Marxists. In that sense, the current crop of American and European left shouldn’t be called Marxist, either. They’re Bolsheviks. They’ll eventually fail, but they’ll do huge damage in the process.
