Image isn’t the only thing – and of course Ms Desrosiers needs to employ a skilled stylist – but it is one of the qualities she is looking for. At the end of the day, she has the right to employ anyone she likes, and it is not discrimination if another candidate has the same skills as Ms Noah, but dresses more appropriately.
Nothing stops Ms Noah getting a job in a more conservative salon, or even one catering mainly to Muslims.
If you want to work as a banker, and turn up to the interview in jeans, you can expect not to get the job, even if your banking skills are great. On the other hand, if you work in telesales, or you work from home, it doesn’t matter what you look like.
