RE #50/doppelganglander: [...] I have a lot of respect for scientists and engineers, but I’m not ashamed of my English degree. And no, I am not a barista – I make a nice living in a field related to my degree. [...]
Completely agree, Doppel – yet, as you well know, so much academic fraudulence and idiotic, lef-wing partisanship has found great breeding ground in the cubicles of the liberal arts departments that no wonder many people look at those disciplines as completely corrupt.
Much about fraud in physics I haven’t heard about in the past years, the “fusion/DePaw U” affair being the single one that comes to my mind (and rumors are that we haven’t really heard the last laugh regarding that matter – yet).
But, on the other hand, aren’t “Black Venus”, “Same Sex Marriages In The Eastern Church” and countless other “liberal arts” frauds still revered readings in college?
Is Jarred’s “Guns, Germs, etc.” offered in college with a must read companion like Landes’ “Wealth & Poverty Of Nations”? Are “The Moynahan Report” and Banfield’s “Moral Basis of a Retarded Society” texts the liberal arts majors must study instead of Derrida’s contortions?
And our Victor Davies Hanson, is he, at least! a suggested read in college? Nope – yet just a few weeks ago, walking by a bus stop by UCLA, I noticed a student reading the bio of…. Robert Mugabe! Heavens, Robert Mugabe’s bio as inspirational reading! Nicely prefaced by Kofi Anan! (True, the book was a 1990+ edition, yet upon querying her, she confirmed that it is in the syllabus).
Anyway – untill the bums will be kicked out from their cubicles, any electoral battle is doomed.
