Prof. Gates refers to this as a “teaching moment.” But he is the one who has much to learn.
President Obama, for his part, first treated the incident as evidence of law-enforcement wrongdoing — saying the Cambridge police acted “stupidly.” Following a firestorm of criticism, he now says both sides “overreacted.”
Baloney. The white police officer acted appropriately (as a black colleague verified). It is Gates and Obama who have behaved poorly.
And Obama, as you so clearly point out, is hardly “post-racial.”
