If you actually read the Bible, there are many very warlike and cruel instructions which modern Christian civilization is content to ignore, while still being Christian.
This is because the Bible reflects the idea that humanity is in an ongoing conversation with God, such that as times change, our interpretation of what God wants from us can change. In Islam, Mohammed is the final prophet with the final word, so ignoring it is not an option, although when you read Muslim advice websites, you see that they spend an inordinate amount of energy trying to find loopholes in the arbitrary laws Mohammed laid down.
Islam, as written in the Koran, is only marginally more violent than Christianity.
Yeah, right, and I’ve got a bridge I can sell you over in Brooklyn. Please, every other verse of the Koran is about smiting and beheading. The most violent aspect of Christianity, in its canonical texts at least, is the Apocalyptic vision at the end. Even there, Islam at least matches Christianity in its violent vision of the coming of the Mahdi to fight alongside Jesus and all of the other eschatological features of the Islamic Judgement Day.
See, this is exactly the kind of tripe Westerners get fed from Islamic apologists who take advantage of the fact that we don’t know what’s actually in the Bible or the Koran. But, like the animals in Animal Farm, enough Westerners are brain-dead from the bleating of “Non-West good, West bad” to make it all seem so plausible. Nevermind that the estimates of non-Muslims killed by Muslims in jihad over the centuries runs to over a quarter of a billion people, a number which Christianity can’t even hold a candle to. “Marginally”, indeed.
