And then it’s never too comforting to hear a presidential candidate say, “The call to prayer is one of the prettiest sounds on earth at sunset.”
For the uninitiated, that’s not the only hour you’ll hear it. I wonder if Obama thought it so lovely before dawn, midday, afternoon and evening as well.
I remember my daughter, after a brief visit to Indonesia, said she could not leave fast enough – it was that repeated call, especially, that had her hightailing it out of there.
I’m sure she’s awfully glad she has her years at Oxford behind her. I believe they’re still in discussions with the local Mosque about limiting the call to a mere three times a day.
