jharp,

‘First, if we’re going to call refundable tax credits welfare for people who don’t pay taxes, we must include the EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit) and the CTC (Child Tax Credit) etc’

Exactly what do you mean to prove by quoting this? None of the other tax credits have anything at all to do with Obama. Do you want me to agree that they too are income redistribution? Ok, I agree. I made the point earlier that tax credits to people not paying taxes is income redistribution.

I mean thanks, but I have no need for you to provide additional sources to support my positions. Your track record for supporting positions is inexcusably poor.

‘Second, the refundable tax credits do cut checks for people whose income tax liability may be lower than the credit. Conveniently forgotten by the pundits are the myriad other taxes the poor pay etc.’

Exactly what do you mean to prove by quoting this? Do you want me to agree that they illustrate that taxes are not limited to just income tax and that by logical extension every tax hike of any sort that Obama institutes must be set against any claim that his tax credit is cutting taxes on anyone at all, much less 95%? Ok, I agree.

Again, thanks, but I can prove my own points.

Look, jharp, if you want to argue that the tax credit will translate into a tax cut for some number of tax filing households between say 30 and 50% you have backup. No numbers I use can be considered precise. The tax codes are incredibly complex. Figuring out who pays what is an art form. If the numbers were easy to pick out, the 95% lie would have been put to bed long ago.

If you want to argue that the 46.7% of tax filing households that pay no income taxes need the help that the income redistribution that the Obama tax credit provides them in these times, you have a position.

What you do not have, no matter how much you gyrate, is any backup whatsoever for your continued claims that 95% of either Americans at large or American tax payers will receive a tax cut due to Obama’s stimulus tax credit.
