Nationwide Ammunition Shortage Hits U.S.

I never owned a gun in my life (well, aside from the 22 bolt action rifle that belonged to my dad), but for some reason I felt a nagging “need” for one about April this year. I wasn’t aware of the ammo shortage, or that guns were now bringing over suggested retail. I went to the local range, which turned out to be only about 2 miles from my home. My wife and I both took a gun safety class. I bought a Glock 9mm. Now, I have found it very difficult to get ammunition. I also find it interesting that as a group, Americans must have “heard the call” much the way I did and bought guns and ammunition. No one told me to. No one suggested that anarchy was around the corner. It was just an uneasy feeling that I had in my gut. Now I’m glad that I acted. I’m also glad that I bought 1,000 rounds at the last gun show I attended as well. Maybe I’ll never need to use it, but I’m more comfortable that the gun sits loaded in a safe I can access in seconds if I need to. I shoot regularly when I can replace the ammo I use. Sometimes the shop has reloads – other times they just shrug.

I have joined the NRA (3 yr, considering lifetime) and have NRA stickers in the windows of my home. I intend to become an excellent marksman. Should the need come – I’ll be better prepared than most. Does that make me paranoid?? Maybe. But all paranoia is costing me is the price of the gun, the ammo, and my membership for unlimited use of the range 2 miles from my home. It is also resulting in my enjoyment of a new sport, and meeting some damn fine like minded people in my community that I might not otherwise have met.
