The Shadow has indeed provided information for dimwits. His post is laced with outdated, partial, and literally faked information, so dimwits will love it.
A point-by-point response would be both useless (we are dealing with a cult, not a rational population) and burdensome. So, for the benefit of the perceptive and fair-minded — I don’t have anything to say to dimwits — I’ll debunk just one assertion in The Shadow’s remarks. Note, please, that the targeted error is fundamental and critical to the entire AGW case. Understand it, and the rest will follow naturally; you can dismiss the terrorizing mythology of AGW and breathe free.
The Shadow says:
“Through the study of ancient ice cores from Antarctica it is possible to compare atmospheric concentrations of the dominant greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere with temperature variations over the past 400 thousand years of the earth’s history (Fig 1). A visual comparison of the two trends indicates a very tight connection between their performance, with fluctuations in one plot almost exactly mirrored in the other for more than 400 thousand years.”
This is all true.
What The Shadow does not tell you is that the ice cores clearly show that rises in CO2 do not precede rises in temperature, and falling temperatures are not preceded by falling CO2 levels. Further, the gap between the two lines on the graph can be as much as 800 years.
That means The Shadow is trying to slip past you a tacit claim that a cause can come after its effect.
He may not know the true sequence of events, of course, but that seems unlikely. In any event, he’s wrong, whether he’s ethically culpable or not.
There are many instances in the geological record of rising CO2 levels being unable to sustain high temperatures, and sharply falling CO2 levels can be seen while temperatures were rising steeply.
There is a cause-effect relationship, and it’s amply demonstrated by the data. But it’s exactly the opposite of what The Shadow implies (he leaves it to you to assume that CO2 levels lead, and therefore drive, temperature levels). In fact CO2 lags temperature.
This is the sort of deceit found in Al Gore’s film. He takes the facts just so far, and then ignores the full story. Gore also has a number of tall tales to tell in that film, among them that there is an island or islands in the South Seas that had to be evacuated because of the rising sea level. The displaced islanders were said to be in New Zealand. When a British court asked for evidence of this event, nothing was located to back up the empty claim.

The claimed behavior of climate since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution is a similar myth. That’s the hockey stick graph, and yes, it is a hoax, a thoroughly debunked fabrication.

Read it. It crushes the AGW cult’s favorite propaganda… absolutely destroys the case for one of Gore’s most effective exhibits. Al used to terrify people with that graph, and now he’s forgotten all about it. The rascal.
People like Gore and Jim Hansen at NASA are not just peddling terrorizing fables, they are also ignoring the truth. For example, Hansen never tells you that of all the CO2 in the atmosphere today, something around 3 to 5 percent of it is produced by all human activity; yet he wants to cut the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere by about 9 percent. That’s impossible. Not just difficult — flat impossible.
And Hansen wants to pull off this miracle in a matter of months, not decades. He actually expects people to believe him! Hey, he’s from NASA!
All the convenient lies about CO2 have been so totally debunked that the mention of CO2 in current AGW propaganda has fallen by the wayside. It had to: too many people have learned that CO2 levels do not drive cooling and warming, but that cooling and warming drive CO2 levels.
We have rebranding, as well. AGW cultists no longer call it “global warming.” It’s “climate change” now, and they usually don’t say “human caused,” either.
Gore’s sermon has changed as he drops old claims, and he now raves about pollution and the urgency of the matter.
AGW is a hasty conclusion based on inaccurate assumptions, myths, and inaccurate data. The gullible faithful are spreading disinformation, sometimes knowingly. Like The Shadow, they expect the public to take partial information (ice core data), add their own false assumptions (the sequence of events that defines cause and effect) and become alarmed by an impending but imaginary catastrophe.
You have two defenses against the assault of junk science and alarmist propaganda: your reason, and access to information.
