The Far Left On the Cusp of Total Success

OK, time for me to put on my devil’s advocate hat one more time.

Suppose that the American people somehow manage to (1) muster up enough will to revolt against the Left, (2) actually defeat the Left, and (3) avoid the fate of numerous other countries that have had revolutions, only to discover that the new boss is the same or worse than the old one. All three of these are tall orders to say the least, but for argument’s sake let’s say America manages to pull them all off.

How, then, do we prevent future generations from repeating the same cycle, thereby rendering moot everything we will have fought for? The Constitutional system designed by the Founding Fathers was supposed to solve that problem. We all know how that’s turned out. It did make it harder for the Left to triumph, and took them decades as opposed to years, but in the end they still triumphed.

A wise man once said that the price of freedom is eternal vigilance. Well, it seems to me the Left has triumphed in no small part because no one’s bothered to ask, just what is the price of eternal vigilance? That is, how much blood, treasure, hard work, stains on our consciences, and other sacrifices must we endure to keep tyranny at bay? If even a supposedly freedom-loving people like ours finds that price to be too damned high, is it any wonder that we find ourselves where we are today – and is there any real hope at all that lasting liberty can ever be resurrected?

I ask all of this because if there is to be another American revolution, I’d hate to think its ultimate effect would be merely to kick the can down the road another 200-odd years, if not much sooner, before a third one becomes necessary.
