This tells half the awful tale. The other is the rise of the “company”, an entity to which Americans gave their loyalty in exchange for a job for life. Sounded like a good deal but there generations of Americans learned “not to rock the boat”, that whoever is higher on the org chart is better and wiser, and to prefer security to liberty. Additionally, we became consumers and ceased being citizens, which made the left’s work so much easier.
