Good assessment marred by the inappropriate attribution of the misquoted statement by Marine General Oliver Smith during the Chosen campaign in the winter of 1950. At that time Smith told journalists that the Marines were not retreating from Chosen but, “advancing in another direction.” Sorry to be so nitpicking but it rubs this historian raw to see the monumental ego the “Old Soldier” that did not fade away but died (at least politically) receive credit he does not deserve.
