Presenting himself as the presumptive Democratic nominee, Obama seems to go beyond what the ancient Greeks called “hybris”, i.e. insolence, impertinence, arrogance. As punishment for the insult that “hybris” means for gods, they send the goddess Ate (the word “ate” means blinding, deception, illusion, punishment, ruin) who leads men into rash and inconsiderate actions which generate calamity and ruin. The perfidy of Ate is infinite and unforeseeable. Who knows, may be this time the jocose goddess wished to appear just in Hillary’s form.
