FYI “Ah my friends, and all my foes, they give a lovely light” is (almost) a quote from Edna St. Vincent Millay’s 1922 poem “First Fig”:
MY CANDLE burns at both ends;
It will not last the night;
But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends–
It gives a lovely light!
